PRESS RELEASE
CONSERVATIVES WIN WALTHAM CROSS BY-ELECTION
Broxbourne Conservatives sensationally won the Waltham Cross by-election last night with a huge 5.7% swing from Labour. The Conservatives overturned a 240 vote Labour majority to take the seat by just 4 votes. The full results were: -
Patsy Spears – Conservative – 650
Christian Durugo – Labour – 646
Steve Coster – UKIP – 200
Brendan Wyer – Lib Dem – 89
Local party chairman, James Burdett, commented “this is a stunning result and shows that the Conservative message resonated in this election. This result proves that Waltham Cross is no longer a reliably Labour ward. My congratulations to Patsy Spears who fought a vigorous locally focussed campaign and thoroughly deserves this outcome. As a former midwife Patsy delivered for Waltham Cross throughout her career, and I know that she will deliver for Waltham Cross as a Councillor albeit in a slightly different way”
The by-election victor, Patsy Spears, said “I’m almost lost for words. I dreamed of this result but never quite believed we would actually pull it off. I want to thank my fellow residents of Waltham Cross for putting their trust in me to serve them as a Councillor, it is a humbling experience, and I will begin straight away to attempt to repay that trust by serving them to the very best of my ability”.
