It is with great sadness that we learnt this week of the death of John Rose OBE a former President of this Association. John was a kind generous and knowledgeable member of this Association and still played an active role in the life of his local branch that covered the Wormley & Turnford and Broxbourne & Hoddesdon South wards.
John served as a County Councillor for Hoddesdon North between 1981 and 1997 and then as a Borough Councillor for Hoddesdon Town between 1999-2003. His engagement with this Association continued long after his elected service where he played an active role in the Association serving on various ward committees and as previously mentioned our Association President. He also continued to play a role in the life of the community as well and was until recently a lay member of the Borough Council’s remuneration panel.
Many will also remember John as a frequent correspondent in the letters page of the local Mercury where his charm, geniality and formidable knowledge always shone through. John played a lower key part in the Association in more recent years but his service to us and the wider community has been vast and he will be much missed by all who knew him.
